Healthy Football Dinner

Conrad had a hankering for wings on Saturday - after a day of college football. Usually we just get up and head off to Buffalo Wild Wings  - but now it's football season and it would be loud and crowded. Not to mention we can easily drop $30 in there on wings ... I mean WINGS?! And they are fried ... so .... I made them at home.

Kroger carries a bag of 24 wings/drumettes in their frozen section. So does everyone else ... HEB, Wal-Mart, etc ... they sell for $9.99 but I found them on sale for $7. So 24 wings (which is two dinners worth) for $7 - I mean you can't beat that with a stick!

So I put the oven on 375 - and line a baking sheet with foil. I thaw out some wings (in this case 12 of them) hours before. So while the oven is heating, I tossed these with olive oil, salt and some smoked pepper (regular would work fine too). I line them up on the sheet and they bake about 45 minutes. I turn them once, 1/2 way through. This is what they should look like:

Then I get a bowl and put some wing sauce in - there are SO many kinds out there- I think I use Frank's ... I add about a tablespoon of butter and I nuke it for 2 minutes in the microwave. Then I just take the wings, 2  at a time and dunk them in the warmed sauce. I try to let them sit like 30 seconds each side ...

Then I just pile them up in a big ol' bowl ... they look SO lovely and especially since these were like $3.50 for ALL of them and they AREN'T fried.

For the rest of this dinner - I made fries and corn. I just popped the fries in the oven with the wings - and baked them that way. When they came out of the oven, I dabbed at them with a paper towel to sort of "drain" off any excess oil. They were garlic fries from Kroger! The corn I just boiled.

I think all in all, VERY healthy and SUPER cheap and it was SO good. I also used Ranch dressing, but made with yogurt. YUM, A ++++
